Domestic Missions

First Baptist Church financially supports nine nationally based mission efforts. Of the nine, two are organizations and seven are individuals or couples located in six different states. The First Baptist Church Mission Committee receives monthly reports from the various missions providing updates and documenting how God is working through their programs. The programs include activities associated with engaging students on college and high school campuses, working with those incarcerated in different facilities of detention, assistance for struggling churches and helping missionaries from foreign locations find rest, education opportunities and coaching sessions as required.

An asterisk indicates the missionary grew up at First Baptist Church and/or has family ties there.

Jim & Joan Carmical with New Tribes Mission (NTM) in Illinois; in 2,500 of the world’s 6,500 people groups, there is no church, nor is there any work being done to establish a church. These are the people among whom NTM works. They work in the tribal culture and language that have isolated them from the Gospel. They present foundational Bible teaching to unreached people groups that have no concept of the God of the Bible. Through this work they are preparing these people groups to establish mature churches.

Ruth Davies* with Prison Ministries (PM) in the northern part of Illinois: incarcerated convicts read their Bibles far more often than the general public, and PM can’t get Bibles into the prisons fast enough to meet the increasing demand. PM has also had success Christian videos, newsletters, tracts, and little Bible booklets. Most correctional facility chaplains receive no funding from the government for the purchase of Bibles or similar Christian material and that is why they depend so much on the gifts of private organizations like PM.

Larry & Kay Marlatt with Missions Door (MD) located in Denver, Colorado: MD assists local churches and Christ-followers to evangelize, disciple and plant churches among the unreached of our world. MD’s values guide the way they approach the fulfillment of their ministry and also provide a framework for inviting others to partner with them in ministry.

Chuck & Brenda Martinez with Child Evangelism Fellowship in Orlando, Florida. Child Evangelism Fellowship is a Bible-centered organization composed of born-again believers whose purpose is to evangelize boys and girls with the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and to establish (disciple) them in the Word of God and in a local church for Christian living.

Ben & Katie Newton* with CRU in Eau Claire, Wisconsin: by working on college campuses they are helping to fulfill the Great Commission in the power of the Holy Spirit by winning people to faith in Jesus Christ, building them in their faith and sending them to win and build others; and helping the Body of Christ do evangelism and discipleship.

Roy & Joanne Schwarcz with Chosen People Ministries in Lincolnshire, Illinois: the mission of Chosen People Ministries exists to pray for, evangelize, disciple, and serve Jewish people everywhere and to help fellow believers do the same. They proclaim the Good News through Jesus the Messiah to Jewish people around the world.

Chris Sleath with CRU in Plano, Texas: Chris works by helping others to fulfill the Great Commission in the power of the Holy Spirit by winning people to faith in Jesus Christ, building them in their faith and sending them to win and build others; and helping the Body of Christ do evangelism and discipleship internationally.

Eunice Zimmerman* with AVANT Ministries in Kansas City, Missouri. Avant Ministries focuses on planting and developing the church in the unreached areas of the world. Through church planting, church support ministries, media, education, camp and business, they establish churches among the unreached: mature, nationally-led churches that desire to plant more churches, first in their own city, and then all over the world. Avant trains, sends and serves missionaries in over 30 countries globally.
